Bluetooth Remote Control Pairing

KreaTV 5 includes support for Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) remote control units. Unlike with IR remotes, to operate the STB with a BLE remote means that both devices must be paired. Pairing is an infrequent process that must be performed on factory-new units, whenever one of the devices is replaced, or following a disaster recovery operation.

The general procedure is to clear the pairing in both the remote and the STB and then press any key on the remote while the STB is booting. To ensure that the STB recognizes the remote quickly, do this with the remote close to the STB, e.g. about one meter.

The pairing might take a few seconds depending on the RF environment and the distance between the RCU and the STB.

New units

New units come with no pairing information pre-recorded, so RCU pairing is automatic on factory-new STBs. Just power-up the STB, insert the batteries in the RCU, and press any key after the splash screen is shown.

How to clear the pairing on the STB

This can be done in two ways:

1. Perform a disaster recovery.
2. Perform a factory reset with flag RESET_RCU_PAIRING or FULL_RESET.

How to clear the pairing on an Aura BLE Remote Control

To clear the pairing and revert to factory default settings, press and hold the BACK and POWER buttons on the remote for more than three seconds.

Aura IR and Bluetooth RCUs look quite similar. You can differentiate between them by checking the print color on the power button. BLE remotes have a white print whereas IR units have a red print.

Reconnection

Aura BLE remote control units enter hibernation after 30 seconds of inactivity. When the RCU is in this state, the response to the first keypress is slightly delayed while the Bluetooth link is reestablished.
