Wi-Fi Management

KreaTV 4.9 introduced Wi-Fi support. Currently the VIP model with Wi-Fi capabilities are the VIP1113W and VIP4302. There are support single band (5GHz) or dual band (2.4GHz + 5GHz) Wi-Fi.

Overview

  • Wi-Fi client - KreaTV. The VIP1113W and VIP4302 are currently the model with Wi-Fi support, the interface for configuring the STB as a client is general enough to be used for coming VIP-models with Wi-Fi support.
  • WPS support. Automatic wireless configuration through Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) is available through push-button. There is no physical button available so this has to be implemented as a virtual button.

WPS support can be disabled for both boot loader and platform. This is done through the boot loader's configuration parameters. WPS availability can be checked in run time through the information object CONST_WIFI_WPS_ENABLED. See the system object description page.

  • WPA2-PSK. WPA2-PSK (Pre shared key) is supported for authentication. Counter Mode CBC-MAC Protocol (CCMP) is used for encryption.

Limitations

The following limitations and caveats exist and need to be considered:

  • Open access points: This type of access point is unsupported.
  • Removing network source during passive standby: If the network connection disappears during passive standby or power down, e.g. AP loss or unplugged Ethernet cable the STB can get stuck in an endless loop trying to reconnect to the missing AP. To get out of this situation disable two stage boot (keeping the standby button depressed while power cycling the STB) and reboot. The network can then be reconfigured.
  • Media streaming: Media streaming is only supported on 802.11ac and 802.11n networks. Streaming might work on 802.11a/b/g but this is not guaranteed.

Regulatory domains

The following regulatory domains are supported:

  • EU: European Union
  • BA: Bosnia-Herzegovina
  • AE: United Arab Emirates
  • SA: Saudi Arabia
  • KW: Kuwait
  • OM: Oman
  • QA: Qatar
  • BH: Bahrain
  • EG: The Arab Republic of Egypt
  • TN: Tunisia
  • DZ: Algeria
  • IQ: Iraq
  • LB: Lebanon
  • JO: Jordan

Special considerations

  • Supported Wi-Fi channels: Regulatory domain specific settings can be added on request. Be sure to do this prior to production start. This ensures that both boot loader and platform has the right settings.
  • Supported access points: Not all access points support multicast (RFC 1112, RFC 4604) in an efficient manner and some don't support it at all. Before deciding on a commercial deployment please send samples of your gateway to ARRIS for evaluation. Gateways that can't support multicast properly can be augmented with the VAP340X from ARRIS. This is an access point that can be attached to the gateway and provide multicast functionality.
  • Multiple MAC addresses: Note carefully that systems using MAC addresses as a unique identifier that the VIP1113W/VIP4302 has two unique MAC addresses. This must be taken into consideration.
