Disaster Recovery

During development, you may want to quickly force an STB to leave two-stage (fastboot) mode, and force a download of new software to the STB. Disaster recovery lets you quickly invalidate the software on the STB and so download a new boot image.

For an STB deployed to the end-user, a disaster recovery is provided for the unlikely event where an incorrect configuration prevents the KreaTV platform from starting and restoring the configuration. The end-user isn't normally expected to perform this operation, hence the name disaster recovery.

Disaster recovery does two things:

  • Remove the boot image stored in the STB flash memory
  • Clears the BLE remote control pairing information from the STB

Disaster recovery does not remove any configuration objects saved by the KreaTV platform, nor any values entered into the boot loader menu. To remove these, perform a factory reset from the boot loader menu.

Performing a disaster recovery

  1. Remove the power cable from the STB
  2. Hold down the power button on the STB
  3. With the power button held down, reconnect the power cable
  4. Continue to hold the button down until the LED stops blinking and turns red (approx 10 seconds)
  5. Release the power button

When the disaster recovery clears the pairing information from the STB, additional steps are also required to remove the pairing information from the remote control, so it can be paired again. Press and hold both BACK and POWER on the remote control for a few seconds, until the remotes POWER led blinks.
